Monel® CNC machining

Falcon CNC LLC machines Monel nickel-copper alloy components for propulsion, fluid-handling, oxygen-service and aerospace applications where corrosion resistance and reliability matter, from our AS9100D-certified, ITAR-registered shop in Mesa, Arizona.

THE ALLOY

Why engineers specify Monel

Monel is a family of nickel-copper alloys, roughly two-thirds nickel and one-third copper, known for outstanding resistance to corrosion in seawater and many acids and alkalis. It keeps its strength and toughness across a wide temperature range, down to cryogenic service.

Monel alloys also resist ignition and burning in oxygen-enriched environments, which is why they are a common choice for oxygen-system valves, fittings and fluid hardware in propulsion and aerospace systems.

MACHINING MONEL

Getting a clean finish on a gummy alloy

Monel is tough and work-hardens. It also tends to be gummy, forming built-up edge and long, stringy chips if the process isn’t controlled, while sealing surfaces and threads demand a clean, burr-free finish.

We control it with sharp, positive-geometry tooling, steady feeds that cut below the work-hardened layer, effective coolant and chip control. Then we inspect sealing surfaces and critical features before parts ship.

FAQ

Monel machining: common questions

Monel is tough, work-hardens and can be gummy, which leads to built-up edge and stringy chips if the process isn’t controlled. Sharp, positive-rake tooling, steady feeds, good coolant and chip control produce clean, accurate surfaces.

Monel 400 is a solid-solution nickel-copper alloy with excellent corrosion resistance. Monel K-500 adds aluminum and titanium so it can be age-hardened, giving significantly higher strength and hardness while keeping similar corrosion resistance.

Monel alloys have high resistance to ignition and burning in oxygen-enriched environments, so they are commonly specified for oxygen-system valves, fittings and components where safety margins matter.
